ABOUT JUAN

Juan Gil is a Los Angeles based Latino Writer/Director. His unique sensibility of telling high-concept stories, with human empathy at their core, has transcended the boundaries of Latinx storytelling and viscerally engaged audiences.

His first project out of college was “Dance With Me, Mija.” A drama that tells the story of a regretful father and optimistic prostitute. The film went on to win the Audience Choice Award at the “Flatland Film Festival,” place as a finalist in the “Official Latino Film Festival,” and be an official selection at the “Beverly Hills Film Festival.”

His follow-up project, “Super Ma” tells the story of a struggling single mother who’s forced to tap into her inner hero during a corner store robbery. The film went on to win the Grand Prize at the Sony Pictures Cine Sony Short Film Competition, garnering him a 3-year-licensing deal with Sony Pictures. It also secured an official selection with the Oscar ® Qualifying Cleveland Int. Film Festival, placed as a Finalist with Stage 32, secured an official selection with the HBO New York Latino Film Festival, and nominated for “Best Drama” at the Cordillera Int. Film Festival.

After a 2-year-hiatus due to the pandemic, Juan’s third film project, “Till Dawn,” would go on to demonstrate his directing ability with a larger and named cast; Eddie Martinez, (The Sinner, Narcos:Mexico, Kill Chain), Lynn Chen, (Grey’s Anatomy, Saving Face, Shameless), and Scotty Tovar, (Finestkind, The Mosquito Coast, Empire). “Till Dawn” tells the story of a rageful father who’s down on his luck, struggling to provide for his family. During a family dinner, turned deadly-home-invasion, he must tap into his rage to protect his family from a deadly art thief. The film went on to get a “Dances with Films” premiere at the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theater. It also went on to receive the “Outstanding Director” award at the Official Latino Film Festival.

Currently, Juan is in development with three different feature films. One of his feature film scripts, the horror/thriller “Trash Monsters,” placed as a Finalist in the Screencraft Horror Competition and the Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Competition. His other feature project, “Bad Cop, Worse Cop” is an over-the-top buddy cop comedy that’s being developed with 3 Arts Entertainment.
